Greek Root 1                    GRE HOME

The English language has its roots in several languages, including Greek, Latin, and older forms of English, German, and French. Learning to recognize common roots and affixes (prefixes and suffixes) will help you build your vocabulary and improve your ability to make educated guesses about unknown words you encounter in reading and test-taking situations

For eg, lets look at the root amphi, ambi which means both sides , round   Let look at few words that have this root,

amphibian - that can live both on water and land
ambidextrous - Able to use both hands with equal facility
ambivalent - confusion.

The root word amphi means both side - so even you dont know the meaning of word amphibian you can "intelligently guess" that it is some thing that can be in both sides. Like wise you can do intelligent guessing for other words also. So enhance your vocabulary power by building your Root word strenth.
